Why DrillBit scores come out high
- Bibliography and quotes were not excluded in the check settings.
- Long definitions, background and methodology paragraphs taken closely from textbooks or papers.
- Your own published papers included without declaration.
- A previous version of the same thesis already stored in the repository.
Legitimate ways to bring the score down
- Apply the UGC exclusions: references, quoted and acknowledged text, table of contents, preface, acknowledgements and standard terms or equations.
- Quote and cite what you need verbatim (keep quotations short), and cite everything else you borrowed.
- Synthesise instead of summarising. Group sources by theme and explain how they agree or differ in relation to your research question. This naturally produces original text.
- Cut padding. Long general background that is not needed for your argument is often where the matches are.
- Declare and cite your own publications and ask whether they can be excluded.
What not to do
Synonym swapping, character tricks and AI paraphrasing tools may change the number but make the thesis harder to read and defend, and some of these tricks are themselves detected and treated as misconduct. Examiners also read the thesis, not just the report.
We run DrillBit and Turnitin reports, explain which matches matter, and edit your own draft for citation, quotation and clarity. We do not offer text "spinning" or detector evasion.
